Religion Explained

The Beliefs and Practices of the World’s Most Popular Religions.

Mission.

Meet the Creator

“Until the age of 20, I was a devout Christian of the Covenant denomination, a sect of Evangelicalism. While in a religious debate with a friend in film school, I discovered that the burden of proof for my religious claims lied solely on my ability to demonstrate their veracity.  As I searched for ways to demonstrate the deity of Christ and the miracles I’d read so much about, I found that, to my disbelief, I was unable to do so. Today, I am an agnostic atheist searching for truth in religious claims. It is my goal to approach faith in the most intellectually honest capacity I know how and allow religious practitioners – of all creeds – to speak for themselves through the documentary filmmaking process.”

Religion Explained is a YouTube channel and blog, created by Thomas Oury (left), dedicated to documenting religious beliefs and practices as explained by religious practitioners. It explores spiritual concepts such as faith, prayer, ritual, holy texts, holy lands, spiritual beings, and spiritual phenomena from the point of view of those who believe and practice each respective faith. The aim of this outlet is to be investigative and curious in nature and approach the subjects in question from a point of neutrality, while also not shying away from asking hard-hitting theological questions of its interviewees. It will also act as a neutral lens through which practitioners and non-believers alike can grasp a basic understanding of spiritual concepts and claims of each religion we explore.
