Ground Rules

 In Personal Blog

Welcome to my new blog! As you’ve undoubtedly already read from my “About” section, this new blog aims to create a space where we can explore the topic of religion together in a way that is conducive to open-minded conversation. That being said…

Let’s lay down some ground rules:

  1. Be nice. This is not a forum for harassment, calls for violence, or “pwnage”. It is, rather, a place for questions, honest answers, and, when we can’t give an honest answer, “I don’t know” is usually the best option.
  2. Serious questions are encouraged. Despite Rule #1, serious conversation around potentially controversial subjects is not only allowed, but encouraged. We’re here to ask the hard questions and give the hard answers. So, if you happen to be a Southern Baptist who wants to give your honest opinion to the question “Do all non-Christians go to hell?”, do it! While there may be some additional questions or answers asking for justification/clarification on your answer, first and foremost, we’re here to learn about your beliefs!
  3. If you didn’t cite it, it didn’t happen. Ok, that’s a little harsh. But, other than purely incorrigible statements such as, “I feel like…”, “I believe…”, or “I perceive…”, if you don’t cite it, we can dismiss it. While everyone prefers primary source documents, secondary source documents (even Wikipedia) are better than nothing. No need for MLA or APA here, just drop us a link!
  4. Opinions are ok! Yes. You heard that right. Everyone is entitled to their honest opinion. That being said, harassment, inciting or encouraging violence, and ad hominem attacks are a great way to get yourself banned. For best results, precede your opinions with a primer like “In my opinion…” or “This is just in opinion but I think…”.
  5. Have fun and learn! That’s what this blog and channel are all about, after all. The goal here is to learn about religious beliefs you’ve never heard about, ask questions, and, maybe change your mind about a few things!

That’s it for this one! Thanks for checking out the website and participating in this documentary experiment!
